Born:
1859 (?) Augusta Zarbrook's tombstone in Montello, Marquette Co., WI, says she lived from 1859 to 1943 (see picture above).
Several sources say she was born March 1857; I assume that someone may have interpreted the hard-to-read 1900 Federal Census birth month as March 1857. The year could be read as 1857 or 1859 (although it also says that she was 41 years old that year). Her age slips from census to census.

Parents:
John Jahnke and Elizabeth Rux Family oral history said that John Jahnke was her father. My grandmother remembers him as her great-grandfather. The obituary of John Jahnke's obituary (Mar. 1923, Montello Express) says that he married Elizabeth Rux before coming to America, and they had two children, including Mrs. Gust Zarbuck [I assume this was the same person as Gusta or Gustie; I've only seen a transcription of the obituary on rootsweb.com].

Marriage:
Married Gottlieb Henry Zarbrook on Mar. 21, 1878 Gottlieb Zarbrook (father) shares a tombstone with Augusta (mother) in the Montello Cemetery, Marquette Co., WI.

The following may or may not apply to this Gust Zarbuck. A person with this name was reported to have a son, Jerome Gilbert Zarbuck, who was born Jan. 9, 1929 in Richford and died Feb. 16, 1929 of polio. The mother was Clara (born in Milwaukee). b. Jan. 1884 Gusta appears on the 1900 census with her parents. She was age 16 (born Jan. 1884 in Wis.).
Family members say she married Julius Nandorf on Jan. 25, 1903 in Marquette Co., WI. Gusta's sisters Minnie and Amanda has nephews and a niece with the last name of Nindorf living with them as early as 1920 (see Minnie's and Amanda's entries below). My family notes show Julius' surname was spelled with an a, but census records suggest it was Nindorf instead.

A "Minnie Zacharias" was issued a Social Security number in Wisconsin. This record on ancestry.com says she was born Feb. 14, 1889, and died June 1971 (last residence was Brandon, Fond du Lac, WI). The birthdate does not match the date given by family members.

Although the age is inconsistent with other sources, this record might apply (birth place and mother's birthplace match):
The 1930 Federal Census in Carondelet, St. Louis, Missouri, shows Alfred G. Zarbrook (age 36) living in the military post of Jefferson Barracks. This census says he was a widow and a private in the infantry. It said he married for the first time at age 19 or 29 [first digit hard to read]. His father was born in Wisconsin and his mother in Bromberg, Germany. His occupation was given as Teamster, and he was listed as a veteran of the World War (which would have been WWI).
His tombstone in the Underhill Cemetery (Packwaukee Township, Marquette Co., WI) said Alfred G. Zarbrook lived from 1892 to 1966. The Social Security death index on ancestry.com says Alfred Zarbrook was born June 9, 1891 [which does not match birthdate information from other sources] and died Oct. 1966. This record gave his last residence as Montello, Marquette County, WI.

Family members say she married David Cragin on Aug. 22, 1915. David was the brother of Byron Cragin who married Alma Klawitter (the daughter of Emil Klawitter and Bertha Zarbrook). A Russell H. Cragin is on the Social Security death index as born Sept. 11, 1921, and died May 31, 1999 (last residence Superior, Douglas County, WI). This Russell may or may not be Amanda's son; I haven't traced his background.
Amanda L. Cragin is on the Social Security death index on ancestry.com. Her Social Security number was issued in Wisconsin. She was born Mar. 27, 1897 and died Mar. 26, 1990.

The birthdate does not match the date given by family members. Family lore says that Minnie and her husband Paul both died at their home on an island on Puckaway Lake (Marquette Co., WI). Oct. 1966	Alfred appears in the 1900 census as living in Packwaukee, Marquette Co., WI (age 7, born July 1892), in 1905 (age 14) and in 1910 (age 17) with his parents (see census details). The 1920 Federal Census in the town of Marquette, Green Lake Co., WI, shows: Alfred Zarbrook (age 29, farm laborer, born in Wis., father born in Wis., mother born in Germany) his wife Ella (age 19, born in South Dakota, parents born in Wis.). His sister Minnie was living next door with her husband and children. Although the age is inconsistent with other sources, this record might apply (birth place and mother's birthplace match): The 1930 Federal Census in Carondelet, St. Louis, Missouri, shows Alfred G. Zarbrook (age 36) living in the military post of Jefferson Barracks. This census says he was a widow and a private in the infantry. It said he married for the first time at age 19 or 29 [first digit hard to read]. His father was born in Wisconsin and his mother in Bromberg, Germany. His occupation was given as Teamster, and he was listed as a veteran of the World War (which would have been WWI). His tombstone in the Underhill Cemetery (Packwaukee Township, Marquette Co., WI) said Alfred G. Zarbrook lived from 1892 to 1966. The Social Security death index on ancestry.com says Alfred Zarbrook was born June 9, 1891 [which does not match birthdate information from other sources] and died Oct. 1966. This record gave his last residence as Montello, Marquette County, WI.
Child 7: Amanda "Mandy" or "Manda" Zarbrook or Zarbock b. Mar. 27, 1897; d. Mar. 26, 1990	Manda was living with her parents in Packwaukee in 1900 Marquette Co., WI (age 3) and in 1905 (age 10) (see census details). Family members say she married David Cragin on Aug. 22, 1915. David was the brother of Byron Cragin who married Alma Klawitter (the daughter of Emil Klawitter and Bertha Zarbrook). Amanda's son Bernard D. Cragin appears on the Social Security death index on ancestry.com as born July 11, 1916 and died Nov. 23, 1997 (his last residence was Montello, Marquette Co., WI). A Russell H. Cragin is on the Social Security death index as born Sept. 11, 1921, and died May 31, 1999 (last residence Superior, Douglas County, WI). This Russell may or may not be Amanda's son; I haven't traced his background. Amanda L. Cragin is on the Social Security death index on ancestry.com. Her Social Security number was issued in Wisconsin. She was born Mar. 27, 1897 and died Mar. 26, 1990.
Other Child: Unknown child	The 1900 federal census shows that Gusta Zarbock had eight children with seven living that year. Details of the deceased child are so far unknown.
