Amil Klaweter 1910 Federal Census in Buffalo, Marquette Co., WI, shows:
  • Amil Klaweter [as spelled] (age 36 or 38 [?], married once, married 10 years, born in Prussia, immigration year given but hard to read - could be 1890, farmer)
  • wife Bertha Klaweter (age 28, married 10 years, had five children with five living in 1910, born in Wis., parents born in Germany)
  • daughter Bertha (age 9, born in Wis.)
  • daughter Guila [not sure I transcripted this correctly] (age 8, born in Wis.)
  • daughter Olga (age 7, born in Wis.)
  • daughter Leta (age 6, born in Wis.)
  • son [name given but hard to read - looks like Anrol] (age 4, born in Wis.)
  • mother Sophia (age 70, widow, born in Prussia, immigration year given but hard to read)
I can't help wonder if this wasn't supposed to be my ancestor's family (Emil Klawitter) even though the names of the children and the mother don't match. It's the right town, the husband's and wife's names are right (Amil vs. Emil though) and the family lived in Buffalo but doesn't show up elsewhere on the census. This census-taker made gross errors (i.e., giving a year for immigration while saying person was born in Wis.). It's possible that language was a problem if the census taker did not speak German or filled in missing information with guesses.
